“Don’t let life change your goals, because achieving your goals can change your life.”

I disagree.
At least as it’s written here.
I happened upon this while doing some journaling about setting realistic goals, and it made me stop and think.
I think this quote brings up an interesting question of why and when we choose to accept and take into consideration the realities of being human, living life, and how they may impact the way we think about or adjust our goals.
I think it’s unrealistic and irresponsible not to “let life change your goals.” Of course life can and will change your goals.
We are humans interacting with other humans in a constantly-changing world.
It’s important to consider how your process and goals may need to flex and change over time depending on what life throws your way.
We cannot control everything.
Life happens, and sometimes life makes our goals easier to accomplish, harder to accomplish, unrealistic, or even moot.
I really think the message underlying this quote is:
“Don’t let life change your goals without being intentional and aware of your choices,
because achieving your goals CAN change your life.”
